After graduating I joined AMEC's nuclear business because I was looking for an employer interested in my continued professional development. I wanted to develop existing skills attained at university and eventually I’d like to reach the stage where I could become a Chartered Engineer. AMEC's nuclear business has provided me with a mentor who is able to advise and guide me on the steps I need to take to achieve this goal. I am also required to write work programmes and reports each quarter so I can keep track of my development.
Graduates are encouraged to get to know their own strengths and weaknesses, set objectives and develop management skills. There are training courses and plenty of technical talks to provide background to the nuclear industry.
I’ve chosen to join my local IMechE branch and the BNES YGN; both hold lectures, conferences and social events that allow me to keep up to date with the latest technology and practises.
